1. Food…Chef The Movie…Jon Favreau Is Cooking And More!
You have probably been reminded ten times to avoid going food market shopping on an empty stomach. Here is a new one to join that overused reminder! Don’t see the movie Chef on an empty stomach! Really! You can taste the tempt-a-lizing food being prepared in front of you on the big screen.
Jon Favreau wrote and directed this newest adventure into the world of food, restaurant battles, and the food truck revolution. As part of this growing revolution, Philadelphia just invited the city’s forty top food trucks to the waterfront for a food truck eating bizarre. The treats and cooking formats were endless and were enjoyed by thousands of strollers and eaters.
What once was a ‘take your life in your hands’ business is now an epicurean treat as trucks of all sizes and shapes are serving on the street and at area weddings and celebrations. The one food staple vehicle is now the delicious ten-course food vehicle with long waiting lines.
Jon Favreau co-stars in this movie with Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey, John Leguizamo, Dustin Hoffman, Sophia Vergara, Emjay Anthony, and Oliver Platt. They’d make great dinner guests if a few weren’t going for your throat. Favreau’s character goes from restaurant chef to food truck owner with pitfalls, humor, and determination. His young son (Emjay) and wife (Sophia) are his biggest fans.
Be aware that as a part of this May feature your theater will be blowing food smells into the seating area. They have already done this with popcorn smells, so this is not a stretch. The restaurant next door is supplying the smells and sponsoring the effort. This would be a great movie to see at a ‘dinner and a movie’ theater in your neighborhood, though. These types of movies are increasing throughout the country. It is worth an away from home investigation.
2. Television…24 Live Another Day…It Is The Fastest 47 Minutes On Television
Monday’s rebirth of 24 with a London background drew 8 million viewers to the FOX network. The two-hour premiere and 12 part series’ beginning had more twists and turns than a Philadelphia pretzel.
More twists and turns than a Philadelphia pretzel beat out these five well thought out office suggestions:
- More twists and turns than an eight-year-old’s braided hair
- More twists and turns than a blonde twirling her gum
- More twists and turns than a dolphin at Sea World
- More twists and turns than a Kardasian weekend
- More twists and turns than a high diver’s 10
Characters from the old series, which ended in 2010, were joined by new characters in the fast paced premier. Three new plots kept you watching the hour of real time tick off…the uniqueness of the show. London makes a nice backdrop for the new episodes. Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is a defrocked agent in the United States’ investigative hierarchy. You can review his past failings on all the relisting channels from On Demand to Netflix to Amazon Prime. Benjamin Bratt, who is trying to catch him, will answer your questions on twitter, too.
Will Jack restore his name while rekindling an old romance is part two in the rebirth theme for this show.
3. World News Tonight…Toronto…Erwin Sniedzins
Erwin Sniedzins is a new Toronto friend. He has an amazing new book called The Three Pillars of Love. It is filled with life’s lessons and the quest to make a difference that will help us all. Judging from his book, convincing Toronto’s voter’s he has workable ideas in all areas, should be easy. Here is Erwin’s email and book review:
Good Morning Tom,
Please find an introduction cover of my Three Pillars of Love book with a brief descriptive introduction. I have, also, included a picture of my mayoral candidacy against Mayor Rob Ford. Please, let me know if this enough or if you need something different.
Three Pillars Of Love
Mt. Everest Expedition for Sarah
This book is a father’s 60-month journey. It started from a Toronto newspaper article that took him to the Everest Base Camp. His supporters and help came from everywhere. It included: Xerox, Cathay Pacific, Associate Grocers, the Prime Minister of Canada Brian Mulroney and Mrs. Mila Mulroney, Sir Edmund Hillary (the first man to reach the top of Mt Everest in 1953), actor Sir Peter Ustinov, Rett Syndrome discoverer Dr. Andreas Rett, Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev and Mrs. Raisa Gorbachev, the famous Chinese-Canadian Dr. George Woo, the Chinese Mountaineer Association, China-Canada Friendship Society, and other movie stars and celebrities. Erwin’s journey led through Peru, Russia, Tajikistan, Paris, Vienna, Prague, Nepal, and Tibet in his quest to raise International awareness and $3 million to unlock the prison that had inflicted his daughter with Rett Syndrome.
4. Movies…Cameron Diaz…Money And My Women Friends
Cameron Diaz, at 100 million dollars, is one of Hollywood’s richest movie stars. She tops all movie stars over forty in earnings and a host of movie youngsters like Jennifer Lawrence and Kristin Stewart, as well.
Cameron’s two new movies The Other Women and Sex Tape will be adding to her monetary treasure chest. The first movie is The Other Women with Leslie Mann and supermodel Kate Upton. The women are a mismatched trio in the movie and in real life. They have appeared on every major and minor television show to promote this comedic romp. Diaz knows how to promote her movies. The movie’s theme revolves around the three of them and their elaborate campaign to give Nick Waldau, Mann’s husband, pay-back for his philandering. Their chance meetings were just as funny as their plot features. Don Johnson, from Miami Vice of old, adds to the couple-ness in a small part.
In Sex Tape, a very R rated movie, the tape she and her husband make inadvertently goes viral. We can fill in the pieces, about parents, family, work colleagues, and friends seeing their video masterpiece. She and Jason Segel will probably be making Sex Tape II next year if the preview laughs extend throughout the whole movie.
5. Art…Lauren Litwa Holden…Art And Stress Reduction
If Lauren Litwa Holden’s art can reduce stress as she says, we are putting her works up on every wall in the office. Thanks Lauren for sharing your work! Here are four of Lauren’s paintings that she shared with us.
Lauren’s Unique Ideas About Art And Stress In Her Words:
“Inspiration for my paintings comes from natural and imaginary sources. Being outdoors in nature and meditating are great motivators for bringing new elements to my work. Whatever the subject matter is, it becomes my fanciful, lyrical and mysterious world. There is something magical that happens when painting, for me the process enriches my connection to the earth. Painting layer after layer of watercolors and oils ends up being a meditative experience. The goal is to create a piece of art that can be a retreat from our hectic stressful world.”
Lauren’s Resume Is Impressive
Exhibitions include the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Noyes Museum, The Philadelphia Artists Alliance, Center for Emerging Visual Artists, American Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Suzanne Arnold Gallery, PA State Museum, Nexus Gallery, Keystone Art Gallery and Stuart Levy Gallery.

6. Music…Nicole Scherzinger, Nicholas McDonald, And Sam Bailey
This Week’s Triple Play For Music Explorers!
The British version of The X Factor has just completed its tenth season. The winner was Sam Bailey a 36 year old female prison guard. The runner-up was Nicholas McDonald a sixteen-year-old sensation. You Tube and VeVo have posted 59 minute compilation videos of every song the two finalists sang from their mini-audition to their final’s sing-off.
Watching two different aged performers grow in their song selections, style, and performances is something all aspiring singers should watch. Both singers sang the covers of Beyonce to Miley Cyrus to Whitney Houston. As you will see, they excelled at the ballads and up-tempo songs of all the newest writers. The very different touches and small changes Nicholas and Sam made to previously performed songs, of course, set them apart from their competitors. Nicholas sang A Thousand Years as well as Christina Perri who wrote it and was featured in last week’s column. We forgot to mention the song was featured in Breaking Dawn Part II.
If two hours of new listening isn’t enough, you will enjoy Nicole Scherzinger’s eight albums and her on line duets with everyone in the music business. Her awesome pipes should be first tested as she sings an I’m Telling You duet with Sam Bailey for The X Factor. This week’s best office play had her singing Heartbeat with Enrique Iglesias and the very dirty Right There with 50 Cent. Right There could only be played after office hours. It was a concession to a very young staff.
7. Earth Day…Bear With Us!…Bears By The Disney Studio
The movie Bears has raised over 10 million dollars in support for earth day programs through its generous percentage of the audience donation. The story is the majestic journey of a mother and her cubs from infancy to the prepared…for a harsh and slowly evaporating wilderness world.
On the local bear scene:
If you find seven inch bear prints all over your yard and the bird feeder on your porch destroyed, should you be afraid? Our research said the size of the paw print does not relate to the size of the bear. Bears are supposed to be like humans. Small humans sometimes have big feet and versee, versee. (Do readers understand the last line was making fun of ‘vice something or other’ or do they think we are just dumb)?
Local Pennsylvania mountain people say watch the deer…when the deer run, you run! Bear by the way are faster than deer and humans for short distances. We won’t be going anywhere near regions that display seven inch bear prints or deer ticks or purport to have “slow bear” crossings. Sorry Naturalists and Mountain People!
8. Dating…Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend
Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend have separated after 10 years of dating. We feel terrible that this hasn’t stopped us from watching the addicting XIII: The Series starring Townsend. The program is a joint venture between French and Canadian producers. The series has trickled down to US On Demand channels.
The series contains the general world domination, murders of your favorite characters, dating while shooting problems, terrorist plots, criminal ventures stopped, whose the bad guy questions, and mystery that all series contain. It does, however, run 30 episodes without commercials.
It will take you a while to get over the fact that Townsend plays the good guy and the guy chasing him. Try to remember what each person is wearing when their scenes together start. It is like teaching identical twins in a classroom. Relate what each twin is wearing to the first letter in their name is a good rule of thumb.
