1. Music…BB King…Riley Ben King (1925-2015)…Diabetes Defeats A Giant! Musical Legends And Masters Of Their Art Never Die!
Every violinist, pianist, and guitarist gives his or her instrument of choice an appropriate and revealing name. It is an unwritten rite of musical passage. The blues immortal BB King named his guitar Lucille. He did his instrument proud by writing a song (My Lucille) about her. That song is the autobiography of King’s life. It has some great insights into King’s work and loves. His life was certainly an encyclopedia of music discoveries, interesting and memorable musical collaborations, and blues trailblazing.
Pope John Paul II is playing King’s guitar, a gift John Paul received after King’s Vatican concert. Their next meet-up and play session should be something to behold.
King was the worldwide ambassador of the blues. BB, well into his seventies, performed in over 200 concerts a year. “From the prison walls to the concert halls” is the way he would often describe his work. BB King holds the world record for three hundred and forty concerts in one year. Now, that is a musical ambassador! BB King’s countless musical awards attest to how well his musical messages were appreciated and loved.
Your recording selection tribute to BB King might include:
1. My Lucille
2. Been Downhearted Every Day Since We Met

2. Movies…Hot Pursuit…Can They Top Batwoman and Electra?
Reese Witherspoon And Sofia Vergara Will Try!
Redefining The Partners In Crime Movie! One Laugh At A Time!
Reese Witherspoon is pushing two things this week. Draper James (http://www.draperjames.com) is her new website featuring southern grace, dress, and style. The site introduces everything from dresses to tote bags. Witherspoon’s picture is prominently featured everywhere on the site. Reese is excited about bringing family values to a new line of fashion products and a new focus of simplicity to the world of everyday people. She expects to do this through starlet directed southern thinking.
Pacific Standard, Witherspoon’s newly formed production company, has released Hot Pursuit, its newest movie. Sofia Vergara stars with Reese Witherspoon.
Vergara’s accountant husband cooks the books for a drug lord. He is needed to testify against this notorious untouchable criminal. This never works out! Bullets will fly!
The tiny and extremely inept bodyguard for Vergara is Witherspoon. Getting Vergara and her husband to Dallas to testify means avoiding the drug king’s killers, corrupt policemen, escaped criminals along for the ride, and irate cattlemen. The outtakes at the end of the movie show that these two (Vergara and Witherspoon) had too much fun creating the movie to be afraid of anything or anyone in this cross state escapade.
While listening to and watching Shakira’s video of Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), the official song of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, the video ended and Zamajobe appeared on the screen. What A Musical Find! What A Musical Revelation! What A Musical Treat!
It seems that the rock, rap, jazz, funk, and soul sounds from the US, Britain, France, and Australia have a new challenger, Africa! Africa is a hotbed of new sounds and Zamajobe is its leader. This songstress is all over You Tube, Vevo, and worldwide listening channels. She receives more play on Radio Africa than the next two singers combined.
Start with Zamajobe’s Magic and move on to Come With Me. After exploring Zamajobe’s songbook, try Lira (Lerato Molapo) our second musical choice from Africa this week. Lira means love and you will love her rendition of the Afro Soul song Hamba. Don’t forget the African men. Arno Carstens and his rock band Springbok Nude Girls opened for U2 on their recent sold out African tour. Carsten’s Feel It is a great story from a lover to his girlfriend. Rock out to SNG’s BattleScars Galactica and you will feel the sounds of Africa drummed into your mind and your updated play list.
4. Movies II…Aloha…Who Will Bradley Cooper Bring Home To Mother?
Filming In Hawaii Is A Tough Assignment! Really Tough!
Working With Rachel McAdams And Emma Stone Had To Be Torture!
Did you know Aloha means hello and goodbye (peace and love) in Hawaiian. In the new movie Aloha either Rachel McAdams or Emma Stone is going to be hello or goodbye. This is, of course, a real stretch in the derivation of this new movie title, but a nice guessing game.
Everyone is in the office and worldwide betting pool of: who will Bradley Cooper end up with at movie’s end? Someone wrote in Bill Murray on the ballot! Murray, John Krasinski, Alec Baldwin, and Ivana Milicevic give back-up spice to Aloha and do take sides in the who will Cooper select battle. Forget the saving the world space themes the movie offers. Love triangles are far more interesting!
Bradley Cooper is a defrocked but famous military contractor who returns to the space program in Hawaii where he excelled and faltered. He turned his plane left when he should have turned it right. We have all had this experience, just not in a jet plane.
While getting his old job back and trying to make amends for past failures, BC runs into his old love (Rachel McAdams) and a new side-kick (Emma Stone). Stone believes in him when no one else does. Please remember to hand your ballot in before seeing the movie and before reading your local critic’s review. Trips to Hawaii will be awarded after a random draw in the winner’s vote pile. For some reason our company head has won every trip drawing we have conducted in the last three years.
5. Mother’s Day…It Should Be Celebrated Every Day Of The Year!
Philadelphia Invented Mother’s Day! Philly Rocks, Once Again!
A Look Back…One Week And One Hundred Sixty Years Later!
Though Mother’s Day tradition goes back to the fertility goddess Juno in early Rome, Anne Jarvis created the American version of Mother’s Day in 1908 with the financial backing of John Wanamaker, a Philadelphia department store owner and philanthropist. Anne’s mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, started the idea in 1860 by forming Mother’s Day Work Clubs in West Virginia to educate women on child care. In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday after much lobbying by Jarvis and the women’s groups she lead and addressed throughout the United States.
Our readers in England and Italy reminded us that countries throughout the world celebrate Mother’s Day on other dates and in various forms quite different from the America’s.
The English and Northern European form of Mothers Day is celebrated in the third week of Lent. It is called Mothering Sunday and dates back to the 1600’s. On this day mother’s return to their original churches no matter where they have traveled to in other parts of England or in the world. Celebratory services are then followed by social fests.
Italy calls their mother’s tribute Festa Della Mamma (Madre). This special day for mothers is filled with an array of social and religious events. Pick a country throughout the world and research how they celebrate Mother’s Day. You will get some great endearing and creative ideas on how to honor your mother throughout the year.

Idol Talk reminds us that Kelly Clarkson has sold the most songs of any idol with Carrie Underwood a close second. Daughtry and Phillip Phillips are the sale’s leaders in the men’s division. The four million records Phillip Phillips sold of Home is the single song record for both men and women who have taken the idol stage.
